How does the new coined “Interim Economy” differ from the “Gig Economy” of the past?

Joe Mullings, CEO of The Mullings Group, shares his thoughts below:

“The Gig Economy was one of choice. The Interim Economy, for now, is an attempt of survival and eventually a ramp to re-employment. Both from the employee and the employer perspective. Self-employment by choice was on the rise and was especially attractive as it was a candidate demand driven market and individuals had multiple choices in a Gig Economy that until recently was healthy.

In a Gig Economy, organizations were accustomed to outsourcing work to individuals who had specific skills and could hit the ground running and immediately impact a project that had a clear start and finish that a company was working on and would allow a company to flex their work force on demand.”
